More San Francisco Vision Event Results

We've been so busy helping people get glasses, we haven't had time to keep our posts up today.  Here are the results from our San Francisco vision events:
 

On April 21st at Santa Maria y Martha Lutheran we got 39 pairs of glasses for homeless San Franciscans.

 

On May 8th at Larkin Street Youth Services we got 42 pairs of glasses for homeless San Franciscans.

On May 22nd at Project homeless connect we got 37 pairs of glasses for homeless San Franciscans.

 

On June 5th our phoropters were used at the Project Homeless Connect event accounting for 43 of the exams completed that day for homeless San Franciscans. 

On June 9th at St. Paulus Lutheran Church we got 43 pairs of glasses for homeless San Franciscans.

June 30, at St. Francis Lutheran Church we got 43 pairs of glasses to LGBT homeless San Franciscans

On July 10th at Project Homeless Connect we got 40 pairs of glasses for homeless San Franciscans.

July 31st at the Huckleberry House we got 45 pairs of glasses for homeless youth who are San Franciscans.

August 7th at Project Homeless Connect we got 41 pairs of glasses for homeless San Franciscans.

 August 28th at Larkin Street Youth Services we got 43 pairs of glasses for homeless San Franciscans.

September 11th at Project Homeless Connect we got 33 pairs of glasses for homeless San Franciscans.

PHC 60 at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium provided exams for over 200 homeless individuals.  66 of those exams were conducted using our equipment.

September 30th at Glide Memorial in the Tenderloin, we got 53 pairs of glasses for homeless San Franciscans.

The total number of individuals who have received glasses though our Homeless Vision Project since October of 2013: 1,887

Vision event to benefit Kona’s homeless

The Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity is partnering with Project Vision Hawaii, the Kailua-Kona Lions Club and pastor Megan Rohrer from the Welcome Ministry in San Francisco to put on the Kona Vision Event to benefit homeless people and other low-income people with their vision needs. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Old Kona Airport Park Makaeo Events Pavilion.

Dr. Susan Senft and Jenn Brown, staff at Island Eye Care Inc., will administer free eye exams. Free glasses will be ordered for attendees and later distributed by the church’s HERO Ministry. The Hawaii Island HIV/AIDS Foundation will offer HIV/HCV screenings. Lisa Lea, a SNAP outreach specialist for Hope Services, will assist people with SNAP applications. Representatives from the West Hawaii Community Health Center will provide information about services offered at the center and information about signing up for health insurance. Sarah Huddy from the Kona Commons SuperCuts will offer free haircuts. A free meal, blood pressure, and blood sugar screenings will also be offered during the event.

Results of the Kailua-Kona Vision Event: March 29, 2014

This weekend at the Old Airport in Kailua-Kona we held our first Health and Vision Event in Hawaii: 291 meals were served, 105 participants signed-in to receive services, 74 individuals were connected to prescription eye glasses, 62 individuals checked their blood pressure, 51 were screened for diabetes, others received haircuts, toiletries and clothing.

Kona Vision Event - Saturday, March 29, 2014

The Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity is partnering with Pastor Megan Rohrer from the Welcome Ministry in San Francisco to put on the Kona Vision Event to help homeless people and other low-income people with their vision needs. The event will take place on Saturday, March 29 at the Old Airport Events Pavilion from 9am to 4pm. Dr. Susan Senft and Jenn Brown, staff at Island Eye Care, Inc. will administer free eye exams, and the Welcome Ministry will order free glasses for participants. The glasses will be delivered to the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity and distributed by its homeless ministry called HERO’s (Help Everyone Regardless of Outcome). A free meal, free blood pressure and diabetes screening, and free haircuts will also be offered during the event. Results for the January 18, 2014 San Francisco Health and Vision Event: Polk Gultch District

Today at Old First Presbyterian Church we held another San Francisco Health and Vision Event: 86 individuals received toiletries and socks, 55 individuals received sleeping bags, 43 individuals were connected to prescription eye glasses, 41 women received bras from  Be a Dear and Donate a Brassiere, 40 had their portraits taken by photographer Vince Donovan, 15 people got follow up appointments with social workers at Project Homeless Connect's Every Day Connect, 8 people signed up for Assurance cell phones, 7 individuals visited nurses, others recieved lunch, books and clothing.

Of all our participants, the one that stood out to me the most was the individual who lost his glasses when someone set him on fire.  There is some real cruelty in the world.  But at our event, we did our best to also show that there is a lot of kindness and compassion in the world.  

Of our 39 participants, 22 got connected to prescription eye glasses with Project Homeless Connect, 18 visited with nurses and had their blood pressures checked and 3 received flu shots from Walgreens.
